Survey

I recently came across a survey on nbcnews.com in regards to raising taxes on the wealthy, where people support or do not support this. The survey looks like it was conducted very well. However it did not say specifically how many people were surveyed or who was. It said they surveyed the public, but it does not say how they picked the people to be a part of the survey. They may as well have asked all lower class families if America should raise the taxes for wealthier families and I’m sure most would say yes because it would not affect them as much. Despite all of that I still felt like it was informative and helpful and conducted well, the end result was that fifty-six percent of Americans think that taxes should be raised for people with a certain income amount. The survey was split up into sections of Republicans, Democrats, and independent. Democrats were the highest supports of the change in taxes. I would defiantly recommend this website to someone researching survey results it seemed to be conducted well and helped me learn more about what is going on in the world.

Content analysis

When it comes to content analysis it is very simple, it comes down to the 5 steps. The last step to every experiment is to report your finding. In class Thursday we conducted an experiment to find out what are the most popular things that appear in ads in America today. We decided to do a graph to help us write down our findings. What my group and I had discovered was not very surprising to me. Out of the six categories and three randomly selected ads from all different magazines these are the results. Out of twenty-one ad’s, fifteen of them contained a women, fifteen of them contained no celebrity, all twenty-one were targeted for middle age people, 7 contained full body 15 of the models were average size and 17 contained Caucasian model. This is saying that most advertisements contain a Caucasian female in her early adulthood that is skinny. This just shows how much the media effects people today. By girls seeing this like this model many young girls just assume that is what everyone needs to look like. Also normally advertisements usually try to show some sort of sexuality in there advertisements which is why they involve a skinny little Caucasian girl. This is more for the males I feel like ad companies think if they make their advertisements have some kind of sexuality in it, it makes men think that if they use this product they can get a girl like that. This experiment really opened my eyes to how shameful some advertisements can be. As long as their products are selling companies will do whatever they can.

Is communication an art or science?

A chronic question that has been asked in class since the first day is, is communication and art or a science? This is something that has been debated for years because communications does involve art as well as science. In my opinion however I think that communications is a science. The act of communicating is a science rather than an art, when people socialize and interact with one another that is their brain controlling everything they do and say which would go along with psychology and human behavior which is all things that involve the brain. People use means of communication in all different ways not just through verbal communication but even hand gestures, e-mailing, texting are still all considered communication. If it was not for science and the way our brains enable us to invent all of the technology that we have we would not have as many means of communication. Science overpowers art when it comes to communication because if it was not for science and language being invented in the first place language may not exist like it does today so art would have never evolved as dramatically as it is now. An example of why communications is more or a science rather than an art would be the scientific method. After the scientific method was created that is when communication studies really began to become more pivotal in the everyday world. Scientist needed to report their findings through communication so if it was not for communication all of the technology that exist today may not exist. Over all communication is a way of life and without science it would not be here as prominently as it is today.
